Fans packed the Royale, an intimate venue of up to 1,500 people. Their roughly 10-song set set the high-energy tone for The Vaccines, which featured their recent release, \u201cAll Pleasure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1-636x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"509\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45750 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1-636x509.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1-1536x1229.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-1.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With their English roots, the band brought fans from across the pond to the Royale, adding another layer to the already wide-ranging audience, which included local college students and dad-rock concert enthusiasts. The concert began with \u201cLive and Let Die\u201d by Wings playing over the speakers, eliciting an erupting roar from the crowd. After the four original members, with an added touring member on keys, walked on stage, the dynamics for the night were clear: The Vaccines were in control. With a familiar guitar chord progression, The Vaccines immediately had the crowd in their hands, opening with \u201cLove to Walk Away.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7-636x424.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"424\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45751 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7-636x424.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-7.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One thing was evident within the first three songs: the soloist wasn\u2019t playing games, and neither were the instrumentalists. The lead vocalist, Justin Hayward-Young, shines during the songs, showcasing impressive vocal control and range during \u201cI Can\u2019t Quit\u201d\u2014a song with a cathartic chorus to scream in the crowd. And the instrumentalists matched his vitality. The Vaccines brought their studio songs to life through sound production, crescendoing, and vigorous instrumentation from the guitarists and drummer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9-509x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"636\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45757 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9-509x636.jpg 509w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-9.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the opening songs, Hayward-Young, emulating a sophisticated rockstar energy since walking on stage in his sunglasses, says to the crowd, \u201cYou should like you\u2019re ready for a Vaccines show!\u201d The crowd proved him right, cheering louder when the next song, \u201cPost Break-Up Sex,\u201d was introduced (\u201cThis is an F chord, and this is \u2018Post Break-Up Sex!\u201d). Before The Vaccines played the next song, the crowd was already cheering to hear \u201cWetsuit,\u201d a fan-favorite song. Illuminated by a disco ball reflection, the room was quiet except for the hum of the guitar chord. Hayward-Young had a commanding presence that felt innate, like second nature. Or one that came after 14 years of practice. Regardless, his captivating confidence made it a delight to be in the crowd of a Vaccines show. It was a sentence without pretentiousness, seeking only to break the energy ceiling with their second run. Their discography, meant to be played live, proved true,l hearing \u201cHeadphones Baby\u201d twice and \u201cJump Off The Top,\u201d an energetic song that even had the lead singer take his sunglasses off. The song was brought to life, with the synth-production sound crystal clear and allowing the audience to interact with the call-and-response lyric in the last chorus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10-636x424.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"424\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45754 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10-636x424.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-10.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The night reached a high during two fan-favorites back-to-back, \u201cI Always Knew\u201d and \u201cIf You Wanna.\u201d This was undeniably the loudest the crowd had been all night, needing no introduction as the crowd buzzed with anticipation. I wasn\u2019t sure if \u201cI Always Knew\u201d could get even better until I heard the live drums during the lyric, \u201cOblivious to all that I\u2019ll owe \/ I\u2019m hanging on, to what I don\u2019t know.\u201d The instrumentals highlighted specific lyrics, forcing the audience to reevaluate their favorite songs to find new reasons to love them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14-636x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"509\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45758 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14-636x509.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14-1536x1229.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2025\/01\/Gustavsen_TheVaccines_01182025-14.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a short break, the band returned to the stage, saying that while they were miles away from home, they loved their time in Boston (\u201cWe\u2019ll be back in Boston next time, not Cambridge.\u201d).
