Boston University Field Hockey (2-3, 0-0 PL) is heading to Worcester, Mass., to open their Patriot League schedule this weekend against the Holy Cross Crusaders (2-3, 0-0 PL).

The Terriers look to remain in the win column after splitting their weekend series with a loss against Boston College and a thrilling win in double overtime over the University of Vermont.

Sophomore forward Caroline O’Brien stole the spotlight across the weekend, with her first collegiate hat trick and the game-winning goal against the Catamounts.

Both goalkeepers played exceptionally well, with BU senior Kate Thomason finishing with 12 saves and UVM sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Halenkamp with six.

Similarly, the Crusaders are entering conference play with a 2-3 record, losing their last game against Long Island University.

Holy Cross freshman forward Maguire Sturgis will be a player to watch as she’s recorded two goals and an assist so far this season, leading the Crusaders with the most shots on goal.

In goal, Thomason is expected to make her sixth start of the season and will likely face off against senior goalkeeper Brooke Ross. The former PL Goalkeeper of the Week averages a 0.800 save percentage, so the Terriers need to ensure they are getting plenty of shots on goal.

Heading into Saturday’s game, both teams are looking to start their conference play 1-0.

Reigning PL Defensive Player of the Year, senior Payton Anderson, is one to watch as she leads BU with shots on goal and minutes on the field. Anderson is a force to be reckoned with, as she consistently draws up penalty corners against the opposing team.

The Terriers’ offensive capabilities will be tested as they face a stellar defensive Crusaders team. Ross is known to stand tall in her post, making it difficult for opponents to get shots past her.

The opening matchup for the Patriot League projects to be an exciting one.

The game will be played Monday at Holy Cross’ Fitton Field at 4 p.m. The contest will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
