Boston University women\u2019s soccer (2-1-1) defeated the University of Albany (1-3-0) by a score of 3-2 at home on Nickerson Field Sunday night after two late goals from the Terriers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trailing 2-1 in the 81st minute, BU scored once in the 82nd minute and once in the 83rd to complete the late turnaround.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming off a stellar freshman season, sophomore midfielder Giulianna Gianino put the Terriers ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute of the game after she bundled home a loose ball from five yards out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite a shaky start from the Great Danes, they responded in a big way in the second half.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the Terriers committed a foul in the penalty area, Albany was awarded a penalty kick, and with, it a golden opportunity to equalize. The Great Danes made no mistake with that opportunity in the 58th minute when sophomore midfielder Hailey Hnis buried the penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Albany didn\u2019t stop there though, as four minutes later, the Great Danes were awarded a free kick and looked poised to take the lead in the contest. Graduate midfielder Tiffany Bernot stood over the dead ball and whipped an enticing pass into the box. Senior midfielder Iola Cotter headed home to give the Great Danes the 2-1 lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Terriers remained in the game though. With multiple corner kicks, BU came close to leveling the score.<\/span><\/p>\n

The breakthrough for BU came in the 82nd minute when junior forward Morgan Fagan whipped a cross from the right corner into the path of senior midfielder Lily Matthews. Matthews directed the ball into the Albany net to tie the game at 2-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With momentum on their side, the Terriers didn\u2019t stop there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exactly 60 seconds later, BU capitalized on a corner kick swung in by freshman forward Samantha Aronson which was headed into the center of the Albany goal by sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Stickleman to retake their second lead of the night at 3-2.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Terriers were able to see out the remaining 10 minutes and complete the dramatic comeback for their second victory of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

BU will travel to Evanston, Illinois next time out on Thursday to face Big 10 opposition Northwestern at 8 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
