PATRICK DONNELLY\/ WTBU SPORTS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>By Hannah Yoshinaga\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Boston University softball swept its opponent in a doubleheader for the second day in a row on Wednesday, defeating UMass Lowell in two back-to-back home games.<\/p>\n<p>The win gives the Terriers a 17-2 all-time record against the River Hawks.<\/p>\n<p>Junior pitcher Lizzy Avery, coming off throwing a no-hitter on Tuesday, threw another complete game and posted six strikeouts. Junior pitcher Allison Boaz held UML to four hits and one run in seven innings in the second game.<\/p>\n<h3>Game 1: BU defeats UML 3-2<\/h3>\n<p>The River Hawks got BU&#8217;s first two batters to pop up before sophomore shortstop Kayla Roncin walked to put a runner on. Senior designated player Emily Gant rocked a triple to left center in the next at-bat to score Roncin, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>UML fired back in the second when designated player Morgan Fisher walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, later coming in to score when an error by BU allowed first baseman Maria Moccio to reach.<\/p>\n<p>The Terriers came up with more clutch hitting in the third when senior first baseman Nicole Amodio&#8217;s two-out single scored graduate left fielder Jen Horita and sophomore right fielder Lauren Keleher.<\/p>\n<p>The River Hawks cut the deficit to one run when a triple by center fielder Olivia Labbe brought home pinch runner Brooke Ashenfelter, but failed to record another hit in the final two innings.<\/p>\n<h3>Game 2: BU defeats UML 7-1<\/h3>\n<p>The Terriers provided all of the offense to start the game, scoring four runs before UML could record its second hit.<\/p>\n<p>To open the first, junior third baseman Caitlin Coker hammered the third pitch she saw past the right field fence, giving BU an early 1-0 advantage. Later in the inning, Amodio knocked a two-out double to right to score Keleher and Gant.<\/p>\n<p>Amodio&#8217;s sac fly in the third scored Roncin, and an RBI groundout by Coker in the fourth allowed freshman designated player Tyesha Williams to reach home.<\/p>\n<p>Keleher put the Terriers one run shy of a mercy-rule victory in the fifth with a two-run double that brought home Gant and Roncin.<\/p>\n<p>The River Hawks recorded their only run of the contest in the sixth when an error by Amodio gave third baseman Tori Mueller the opportunity to score.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Terriers travel to Easton, Pa. for three games against Lafayette College on Saturday and Sunday.
