The Boston University men\u2019s hockey team (3-5-0, 2-4-0 HEA) will head to Marquette, Michigan this weekend for a two-game road swing on Friday and Saturday night against the Northern Michigan Wildcats (2-5, 2-4 CCHA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the team is really excited about going on the road and getting out of Boston for a little bit,\u201d BU head coach Albie O\u2019Connell said in his weekly media availability.<\/span><\/p>\n

The team took a two-hour private charter flight to Marquette to cut down on travel time. The trip will be the first time the team has traveled via plane since January of 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell mentioned that he sees the road trip as an opportunity for the team to lock in on the task at hand while also building their chemistry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt just gets you focused on hockey and the team,\u201d O\u2019Connell said. <\/span>\u201cIt always ends up being a good bonding experience for the guys, and I don\u2019t think they mind staying in a hotel, so it\u2019s not the worst thing,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday will mark the first time BU plays against Northern Michigan at Berry Events Center. The two teams have squared off just four times in history, and this weekend will be BU\u2019s first trip to Marquette since 1988.<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell said he is expecting \u201ca really crowded building and a fun environment\u201d when the two teams square off on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

After last Saturday\u2019s loss to UMass Lowell, O\u2019Connell referred to his roster as \u201cbeyond banged up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

All signs point to the Terriers being shorthanded once again this weekend. O\u2019Connell didn\u2019t have any injury updates to give other than saying, \u201cI think that maybe we\u2019ll get a guy or two back, but we\u2019ll still be a little bugged with injury for a little bit longer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell mentioned that this problem is \u201cpart of hockey\u201d and that the 21 players who dress in each game this weekend will need to be ready to go.<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell emphasized execution and starting on time to his team in practice this week.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to hopefully get out there and start on time on Friday night,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s important to understand what the other team is doing, but if we can\u2019t execute what we\u2019re trying to do in our forecheck, in our neutral zone, and on our breakouts, we\u2019re really worried,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t win consistently until you can\u2019t beat yourself,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

While O\u2019Connell said that the majority of focus in practice this week was on his own group, he did say that he was impressed by what he saw from Northern Michigan on film.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re an up-tempo team. They\u2019re good off the rush. They attack,\u201d O\u2019Connell said. <\/span>\u201cThey pose a lot of different threats. They\u2019re organized in what they do, and they\u2019ve got a lot of talent, so we\u2019re going to have to be on our toes,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Puck drop for Friday\u2019s game is at 6:30 p.m. ET from Berry Events Center.<\/span><\/p>\n
