After that, the team put on a show, defeating the Colgate Raiders 15-14 in Boston, with the seniors playing an especially important role on both ends of the field in the crucial win.

Head coach Lauren Morton spoke about the efforts of the seniors postgame: “It’s so incredible. I think every single one of [the seniors] played, which is awesome. They’ve all stepped up in their roles, whether it’s Michelle [Seger] being able to finish in the crease, Megan [Hickey] in the goal cage, certainly Jenny [Feeney] and Cassie [New] defensively. They’re really about the team.”

The Terriers (4-5, 3-2 PL) were led by senior midfielder Emily Vervlied, who set a new career-high for points with 10 (4G, 6A), to go with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Some other standout seniors include Gaffney, Seger, Barry, and Irvine, each scoring 2 goals of their own. Sophomore Lauren Kaye and freshman Tobey Tick each added goals of their own as well, with Tick scoring on a last-second chance in the first half.

Vervlied and Barry also each hit the 100 career points milestone during the game.

Feeney held down the fort on the defensive end, playing her trademark strong defense against a potent Raider offense. Hickey also stepped between the pipes halfway through the second half and earned the win for the game.

For the Raiders (4-5, 3-4 PL), midfield Catie Lang scored four goals and dished out two assists, in addition to securing eight draw controls.

The Terriers were able to convert on 4-of-5 free position shots throughout the game, giving them a much-needed boost as they battled it out late in the game. Gaffney and Kaye each scored off free positions in the second half.

The Patriot League announced on Friday evening that the playoffs have been expanded to six teams. Thus, the Terriers will play in the postseason for the first time since a heartbreaker against Colgate in the 2019 quarterfinals. Seeding has yet to be decided.

For the seniors, they played their final regular-season home game in the scarlet and white during their incredible run with the Terriers.

BU Women’s Lacrosse 2021 seniors.
