On Saturday afternoon, the Boston University men\u2019s soccer team tied Army 1-1 following two periods of overtime to finish out their 2020-21 regular season.<\/p>\n
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Zion Balogun and George Abunaw were honored by the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have represented the University and the department, specifically the men\u2019s soccer program.\u201d Said coach Kevin Nylen in his post-game interview. \u201c[I\u2019m] really glad to have been able to be around those guys and they have had a really good impression within the group.\u201d<\/p>\n
BU (1-2-1) started off the scoring when Balogun dribbled the ball into the box before crossing it ball for Ronaldo Marshall, who tapped it in giving the Terriers the lead in the 10th minute.<\/p>\n
Army (0-3-1) put pressure on the Terriers with a few good scoring opportunities. But the Black Knights continued to come up unsuccessful until the 83rd minute, when they converted a free kick just outside of the box.<\/p>\n
With the game tied until the 90th minute, the two teams went into overtime but continued to keep the score sheet clean. Neither side broke through in the two OT periods.<\/p>\n
\u201c[It was] a gritty game. I\u2019m proud of the guys to get a point and find a way to get a draw,\u201d Said Nylen.<\/p>\n
While it was not the outcome the Terriers were hoping for, they placed third in their division with 4 points, just missing the playoff position that is awarded to the top two teams in each division.<\/p>\n
Although it seems that BU\u2019s playoff hopes are lost, there is still potential for the Terriers to earn their spot. Holy Cross has currently suspended all in-person activities, including athletic events, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. If the university continues to stay in lock down, BU will take its place in Patriot League tournament. The Terriers will find out their fate in the coming days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
