After 493 days, Boston University men\u2019s soccer has returned with a bang. With a new season underway, which includes a new coaching staff and 14 new players, the Terriers did not disappoint in their season opener.<\/p>\n
Following a shaky first half, the BU men\u2019s soccer team returned to the field to defeat home team Colgate University 3-0. After a few adjustments made at the half, including replacing starting goalkeeper Michael Stone with freshman Andrew Wike, BU was able to take the victory.<\/p>\n
Ronaldo Marshall began the scoring affair after deflecting the ball into the net following a cross from junior Gianluca Arlotti in the 50th minute. Just six minutes later, sophomore Ryan Lee and freshman Andrew Lent combined for a give-and-go to allow Lee to score. In the 76th minute, Ryan Lee sent a long ball to Eitan Rosen, who crossed it in to Marc Roura. Roura hit the crossbar on the shot, with Aidan Holmes following to head in the ball and finish out the scoring.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am really happy for the group,\u201d first-year head coach Kevin Nylen said following the game. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of work they have been putting in for some time, and I tip my hat off to those guys.\u201d<\/p>\n
With 14 new players and an entirely new coaching staff, it was unknown how the team was going to come out.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expected it to be rough early on,\u201d said Nylen, \u201cnow we have to identify a little quicker start\u2026 and our set pieces are going to have to be stronger.”<\/p>\n
Regardless of the improvements that need to be made, the backline and goalkeepers came out solid to help the Terriers keep the score sheet clean.<\/p>\n
Despite not having played a collegiate game in over a year, and with the new additions to the team, BU proved themselves to be an early contender in the Patriot League this year. They’ll return to Nickerson field and host Holy Cross next Sunday at 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
