Boston University had a clean sweep of Colgate in this weekend\u2019s Patriot League series. The Terriers got the bats going early and continued their phenomenal pitching kept. Through the three game series, the pitching duo of Emily Gant and Ali DuBois allowed only one combined run, taking the pressure off the offense.<\/span><\/p>\n DuBois started off the series for the Terries and took care of business as usual. The sophomore held Colgate to just one hit and no runs in a five inning, run-rule victory. It was a huge, six-run fourth inning that helped BU end the game early. Alexa Ponce paced the offense with a 3 RBI performance in the 8-0 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n In game two, the bats got out to a strong start early with an RBI single in the first from Emily Morrow and followed it up with another three runs in the second to give pitcher Emily Gant a good cushion. The whole lineup hit well throughout the game; a good sign for an offense that has relied on walk-offs from Morrow to win games. The Terriers walked away with a 7-0 victory, and Gant moved to 6-7 with a 1.85 ERA on the year and has recorded shoutouts in her last 3 starts.<\/span><\/p>\n DuBois got the start in game three. She turned in yet another strong start for BU. The Terriers got on the board first when senior Alex Heinen collected an RBI single in the first. Colgate finally scored its run of the series with an RBI triple in the top of the sixth, but DuBois would leave pinch hitter Lauren La Terra stranded and close out the game strong. The Terriers won in another walk-off, but this one was not how they expected it. Marina Sylvestri ended it with an RBI bunt to seal the deal with a 2-1 win in the bottom of the seventh and walk away with the series sweep against Colgate. <\/span><\/p>\n The winning pitcher, DuBois, described the finish saying, \u201cWe were fired up and willing to do anything to win in the seventh inning.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n DuBois kept Colgate scoreless until the sixth inning of her second game. DuBois said she did this by, \u201cTaking it one batter at a time,\u201d and telling herself before every batter that \u201cI\u2019m not letting her get on base.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n She got control of her pitches early on and dominated the Colgate lineup. Despite moving to 16-8 on the year with a 1.40 ERA, she was still critical of herself when discussing their next matchups: \u201cHopefully next time I won\u2019t give up any more runs and we can keep hitting the way we did this weekend.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n DuBois and the Terriers will look to keep rolling with a Wednesday double-header against UMass Lowell and a weekend series against Patriot League foe, Lafayette.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By: Bryan Quigley Boston University had a clean sweep of Colgate in this weekend\u2019s Patriot League series.
