He played at the BBC Introducing show in London in 2016, a stage where Ed Sheeran, Ting Tings, The 1975, and Two Door Cinema Club all gained popularity. I discovered TH\u00d8SS at the BBC Introducing show in London. I recently contacted him and asked him several questions about his music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the title track \u201cBenchwarmer\u201d off his debut sounds like criticism he received from the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">music industry, TH\u00d8SS had other intentions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[It was] not criticism from the music industry as such, though I have found the industry side of things to be somewhat fickle. It was more a dissatisfaction with my own progress and lack of direction at that time that led to \u2018Benchwarmer,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTwo Laces,\u201d the current single, is a catchy song that tells a captivating story. On the online\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">store, Th\u00f8ss sells a pair of shoelaces printed with his band name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked of the laces\u2019 meaning in relation to the song, TH\u00d8SS responded, \u201c\u2018Two Laces\u2019 is a description of two people who are lace-like in stature. I thought it would be fun to take the title literally with some actual shoelaces\u2013they\u2019re not part of the song\u2019s narrative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Th\u00f8ss incorporates meaning into his music. His new material is sonically cohesive and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">demonstrates his artistic growth, a product of the EP\u2019s production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI work closely with my friend Harri Chambers on the production,\u201d he said. \u201cWe start with a fully formed song and band arrangement, which we scrutinise, add to, and take away from until we find a completed piece. We take inspiration from sounds and an overarching vision for the track. Chinese food also helps to provide late night inspiration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TH\u00d8SS also incorporates visual art into his music. The music video for the track \u201cIWITW\u201d depicts a chamber of reflection in a bathroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe visual side of TH\u00d8SS is collaborative. I work with a collage artist friend of mine, Joe Mackenzie, to develop single and EP artwork. I come with ideas and he runs with them,\u201d he said. \u201cFor videos I work with Abi Sinclair. We develop a concept together, keeping it simple\u2013and cheap\u2013to execute. We shot the video for \u2018IWITW\u2019 in a friend\u2019s bath and spent \u00a34\u2013on milk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TH\u00d8SS\u2019s visual process is resourceful and coincides with the atmosphere of his music, he added. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for new material, we may have to wait just a little bit longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m currently working on a whole host of material but won\u2019t be releasing anything new until 2018.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Niko Yaitanes<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Tune into Niko\u2019s show, Moby Disc, on Fridays 12 p.m.-2 p.m. on WTBU radio to hear TH\u00d8SS and similar artists!*<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two years following his debut EP, Benchwarmer, London-based alternative artist TH\u00d8SS is\u00a0ready to take the music world by storm with new material.
