In the finale of their opening homestand, the Boston University women’s soccer team fell to the Fairfield Stags, losing 2-1. Despite outshooting Fairfield 6-2 in the first half, neither team scored in the opening 45 minutes. In the 55th minute, the Stags finally broke through, beating senior goalkeeper Susan Shobeiri’s back post. The Terriers, however, responded quickly, and 10 minutes later, senior defender Helene Tyburczy volleyed a corner kick from junior midfielder Giulianna Gianino to level the score and register her first collegiate goal. The Stags ultimately pushed on, outshooting Boston University in the second half 8-5, and scoring the game-winning goal in the 76th minute with another back-post rush.
