Field Hockey: No. 24 Terriers prepare for final weekend of regular season

This weekend the No. 24 Boston University Field Hockey team will be hosting the College of the Holy Cross and No. 13 Boston College in their final weekend of the regular season.

The Terriers (9-6, 4-0 PL) are coming off a weekend split against Lehigh and the No. 5 University of Connecticut. On Saturday, the Terriers remained undefeated in the Patriot League beating Lehigh 5-1 but fell 2-1 to the UConn Huskies on Sunday.

The Terriers will play the Crusaders for the Turnpike trophy at New Balance Field on Friday. Holy Cross, is coming off of a 3-1 loss against Bucknell University last weekend. The Crusaders have a 3-12 record this season with a 2-3 mark in the Patriot League.

Senior Emily Loprete leads the Crusaders with 11 goals and 1 assist. Senior Suzanne Noone, follows Loprete with 3 goals and 4 assists. The Hawk’s goaltender, Marcia LaPlante has played in every game this season and holds a .761 save percentage. LaPlante has saved 175 goals, which leads the NCAA, and has only allowed 55 goals this season.

On Sunday, the  Terriers play Boston College on the road in Newton. The Eagles are coming off a losing weekend on the road against Duke University and Liberty University, both 2-1 defeats. The Eagles have a 9-7 record this season with a 2-4 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Senior Frederique Haverhals leads the Eagles with nine goals and three assists. Graduate student Brooke Matherson follows Haverhals with six goals and five assists.

The Eagles goaltending duo holds a .709 save percentage. Freshman, Jonna Kennedy holds the highest save percentage out of the two with .784. Junior, Sarah Dwyer, who has played the most games this season out of the two, holds a .653 record with 32 goals saved and 17 allowed.  

Over the past weekend, sophomore Ailsa Connolly retook the scoring lead with eight goals and two assists so far this season. Senior Ally Hammel follows with five goals and five assists.

The trio of Terrier goaltenders hold a .565 record, saving 39 goals and allowing 30 so far in the season. Sophomore Millie Baker holds a .600 the highest save percentage so far this season. Senior Kathleen Keegan who has played in the most games this season holds a .586 save percentage.
