Men’s Lacrosse Earns Berth To Conference Tournament

Controlling its own destiny, the Boston University Men’s Lacrosse team clinched a berth to the 2018 conference tournament by downing Patriot League foe Holy Cross 9-4 on Friday night in Worcester.
The Terriers (7-7, 3-5 Patriot League) scored the game’s first seven goals, shutting out the Crusaders for just over one and a half quarters.
Standout freshman Chris Gray continued his torrid rookie campaign, collecting a trifecta of goals to go with two assists to pace the Terriers. Gray set the Terriers single-season scoring record in the process. He now has 59 points on 24 goals and 35 assists, passing then-senior Cal Dearth’s record of 59 points set in 2017.
Juniors Thomas Schmidt and James Burr added a pair of goals apiece. Senior Greg Farris scored a single tally and freshman Michael Doxie rounded out the scoring with his first collegiate goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joe McSorley corralled 10 saves on 14 shots faced. The four goals against were a season low. In his first season as a starter, the Oak Grove, Maryland native has collected at least 10 saves in 11 of the Terriers 14 contests.

The Crusaders (4-9, 2-6 Patriot League) will not appear in the six-team Patriot League Tournament field. Joining the Terriers in the tournament are Navy, Bucknell, Loyola and Lehigh and Colgate.
BU will play as the sixth and final seed as Colgate holds the tiebreak thanks to a 16-9 win at Nickerson Field on March 10. They will face Bucknell in the opening round. The Terriers fell 16-9 on the road in the teams meeting this year.
