Hockey East: Action Back on Saturday
By: Marisa Ingemi
New Hampshire vs Cornell: From Madison Square Garden, UNH faces Cornell. The Wildcats have found somewhat of a groove, with wins over Renesslear and UMass last week. Tyler Kelleher has been stellar as the lone top line returner for UNH. Cornell split its contests last week where it suffered a tough loss to Quinnipiac. Prediction: UNH wins
Brown vs Maine: Maine got one point out of its two game series with Vermont last week, tying 2-2 in the final contest. Rob McGovern has been sneakily good in the crease and Mitchell Fossier a surpringly solid rookie for the Black Bears. Two tough losses for Brown last week set the Bears back in the ECAC, and with a 1-5 conference record, things aren’t looking up. Prediction: Maine wins
Colgate vs Providence: Coming off a contest vs Merrimack the night before, Providence will host Colgate. Goaltending remains Providence’s strength as the Friars have been inconsistent. Colgate has continued to struggle since the get go against Hockey East clubs. Prediction: Providence wins
Sacred Heart vs Connecticut: UConn had a decent weekend where it was able to top BU on the road with a 4-0 victory. The Huskies have a lot going for them with a top line that can score as well as any team in the conference. Going 2-1 last week, the Sacred Heart Pioneers are playing better than they had to start the year. Being dead last in their conference, however, Sacred Heart is not at the level of UConn. Prediction: UConn wins
St Lawrence vs UMass: The Minutemen lack a lot, but goaltending and defense has been the roughest. St Lawrence is having a great season, and despite the loss to Quinnipiac in the first game of the Friendship Four, is a much better team than the struggling UMass. Prediction: St Lawrence wins
Quinnipiac vs Vermont: Stefanos Lekkas has been a godsend for the Catamounts this season. However, Quinnipiac remains one of the top teams in the nation and trails St. Lawrence by just a point in the ECAC. Vermont is playing well, but they aren’t the Bobcats. Prediction: Quinnipiac wins
