Over 15,000 Russia Cohort samples were shipped from St. Petersburg to Boston in June. Admin Core staff, Julia Canfield, Sally Bendiks, and Natalia Gnatienko, took the lead over the course of several weeks to scan in and inventory these samples. Uganda ARCH has conducted 434 6-month assessments, 307 12-month assessments, 189 18-month assessments, 122 24-month assessments, 63 30-month assessments, and 27 36-month assessments. All participant follow-up was concluded by November 2015. Judy Hahn and Nneka Emenyonu were in Uganda in July for a site visit and study close out. Judy also gave a well-received talk at the Mbarara HIV Clinic entitled &#8220;10 Years of Alcohol\/HIV Research in Uganda: What We\u2019ve Learned and Where We Are Going.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The team has received funding to continue the Uganda ARCH cohort with\u00a0the <strong>A<\/strong>lcohol <strong>D<\/strong>rinkers\u2019 <strong>E<\/strong>xposure to <strong>P<\/strong>reventive <strong>T<\/strong>herapy for <strong>TB<\/strong> (<strong>ADEPT-TB<\/strong>) study. This 5-year, single arm study will examine 6 months of daily INH (6H) among persons co-infected with HIV and TB. Our main aim is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of the TB preventive therapy regimens, overall and by level of drinking.\u00a0Our results will provide critical new insights for guidelines on how to best deliver TB preventive therapy to alcohol using, HIV\/TB co-infected persons at high risk for TB disease and reduce morbidity and mortality.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: Sans-Serif; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a name=\"russia\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/a>Russia Cohort and ZINC RCT<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As of\u00a0September 1st, 2016, Russia ARCH (n=351) has completed all six-month (260) and twelve-month (244) assessments and has conducted 229 eighteen-month assessments and 152 twenty four-month assessments. As of September 1st, 2016, ZINC (n=254) has completed all six-month (160) and twelve-month (152) assessments and has conducted 144 eighteen-month assessments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The team is actively pursuing data analyses, abstract submissions, and manuscript preparation. Two abstracts were presented at the 78th Annual Meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Forum held in conjunction in Palm Springs, California in June 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Food insecurity and HIV progression among Russians with heavy alcohol consumption<\/em>. PETER HIV &#8211; Alcohol, Protein Biomarkers and Cardiovascular Disease Risk\u201d study, in September in response to<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/rfa-files\/RFA-AA-17-006.html\">RFA-AA-17-006<\/a>. <span style=\"color: #000000;\">The study will leverage the St PETER HIV clinical trial, which will begin recruitment in winter 2017, to determine the association between alcohol use, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), and measures of subclinical heart failure.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: Sans-Serif; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a name=\"boston\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/a>Boston Cohort<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2016\/06\/LSUHSC-RSA-2016-Satellite.pdf\">Alcohol Abuse Co-morbidities and Triggers for Addiction Satellite Symposium<\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">that preceded the Research Society on Alcoholism (RSA) Scientific Meeting in late June, Rich Saitz gave a talk entitled \u201cInteraction of Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse in People Living with HIV\/AIDS.\u201d His presentation was well-received by attendees, and you can view the slides <a href=\"\/urbanarch\/files\/2016\/09\/RSA2016_Saitz-Risks-Consequences-and-Addressing-Unhealthy-Alcohol-Use-in-People-with-HIV-Infection.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) Scientific Meeting\u00a0this summer, Angela Bazzi presented her Boston ARCH abstract entitled \u201cSexual risk and substance use behaviors among partnered and non-partnered HIV-infected adults with substance dependence.\u201d\u00a0Theresa Kim also presented an oral communications entitled \u201cPolypharmacy and non-fatal overdose in patients with HIV infection and substance dependence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"321\" height=\"250\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6583\" alt=\"alicia rich margo goodbye - cropped\" src=\"\/urbanarch\/files\/2016\/08\/alicia-rich-margo-goodbye-cropped-636x495.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2016\/08\/alicia-rich-margo-goodbye-cropped-636x495.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2016\/08\/alicia-rich-margo-goodbye-cropped-1024x798.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 321px) 100vw, 321px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Boston ARCH team is saying goodbye to two colleagues.
