Several URBAN ARCH investigators and affiliates will attend. Here we will highlight a few opportunities to connect with URBAN ARCH at RSA 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the official opening of the meeting, META HIV CVD, a 2nd-generation URBAN ARCH HIV\/Alcohol P01 Center, will host an alcohol and HIV satellite meeting on Saturday, June 24th, from 9am-5pm. The satellite meeting will feature presentations from several other HIV\/alcohol research groups, including URBAN ARCH, ARCHER, SHARC, HARP, and others. BUGs is a group of alcohol biomarker and biosensor experts who will present their experiences using alcohol biomarkers in research during the symposium. The symposium is entitled &#8220;Using alcohol biomarkers in alcohol intervention research: everything you wanted to know about alcohol biomarkers (mostly PEth) but were afraid to ask&#8221; and will take place on Sunday, June 25th at 1:20pm in Grand G. During the poster session on Sunday, June 25th, Dr. Judith Tsui will present a poster entitled \u201cPilot RCT comparing low-dose naltrexone, gabapentin, and placebo to reduce pain among people with HIV with alcohol problems.\u201d The poster focuses on the findings of the <a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.nih.gov\/search\/FheBRWenzEelFD4uCcy6kw\/project-details\/10234097\">Pilot Study of an Opioid-receptor Antagonist and Gabapentin to Reduce Pain and Inflammation among HIV-Infected Persons with Alcohol Problems (PETER PAIN) study<\/a>, which compared the effects of low-dose naltrexone and gabapentin to placebo among a cohort of people with HIV (PWH) with heavy alcohol use and chronic pain.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12757\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12757\" style=\"width: 125px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/urbanarch\/files\/2022\/09\/kaku.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/urbanarch\/files\/2022\/09\/kaku.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" class=\"wp-image-12757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2022\/09\/kaku.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2022\/09\/kaku-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/urbanarch\/files\/2022\/09\/kaku-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 115px) 100vw, 115px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12757\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Kaku So-Armah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Senior URBAN ARCH investigator and TALC project lead, Dr. Kaku So-Armah will present two posters during Sunday&#8217;s poster session. The posters, entitled \u201cAlcohol-interactive medications, current alcohol use based on phosphatidylethanol, and mortality among people with and without HIV,\u201d and \u201cHIV status and age do not alter the association between alcohol and na\u00efve or senescent CD4 and CD8+ T-cell subsets,\u201d will highlight data from the Veterans Aging Cohort Study (VACS).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13039\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13039\" style=\"width: 112px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/urbanarch\/files\/2023\/07\/Amanda-Miller-scaled-1-e1678909853315-557x636-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"102\" height=\"117\" class=\" wp-image-13039\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13039\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Amanda Miller<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>URBAN ARCH will also make an appearance during Tuesday\u2019s poster session, where Dr. Amanda Miller will present her work with URBAN ARCH investigators in Uganda. Amanda\u2019s poster, \u201cIPV among HIV\/TB co-infected persons with unhealthy alcohol use in Uganda: A qualitative study of an incentive-based alcohol\/medication adherence intervention,\u201d will feature data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.nih.gov\/search\/ymEtOGxbukSZCvqCvjAoaw\/project-details\/10238903\">Drinkers\u2019 Intervention to Prevent Tuberculosis (DIPT) study<\/a>.
