About URBAN<\/h2>\n

More than half of the world\u2019s population lives in cities and this proportion will grow in the next few decades. People living in cities can face elevated levels of air and water pollution and extreme weather events such as heat waves and storm surges.<\/p>\n

The mission <\/strong>of the Boston University Graduate Program in Urban Biogeoscience and Environmental Health (“BU URBAN”) is to prepare graduate students to tackle urban environmental challenges using interdisciplinary methods and a co-production approach centered on partnerships with governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.<\/p>\n

Our vision<\/strong> is to create a diverse workforce of scientists and practitioners equipped with the technical knowledge and communication skills necessary for building a sustainable, healthy, and equitable future.<\/p>\n

Experiential learning is an essential component of URBAN. We partner with local governments, national agencies, non-profits, community organizations, and the private sector to support efforts aimed at making our cities more sustainable, equitable, and healthy. Students get involved in projects with implications for policy and practice at the local, state, and national level.<\/p>\n
