On Working with the UEA: It is often said that a child not only plays with their friends but also learns a great deal from them, possibly even having a comparable impact on their early development to their parents. Similarly, a student’s classmates may have an equal or greater impact on their learning than their teachers, providing an informal educational environment that pervades all corners of their years in college. I firmly believe that an essential component of the intellectual firmament of a university are the relationships that students form, and student organizations such as the UEA and UWE provide context and structure for the creation and maintenance of these relationships. I must say as the faculty advisor, I am continually impressed by how engaged and dynamic our economics majors are, and frankly, I find it tremendously fulfilling to see how both of these organizations have flourished over the years. The UEA and UWE have provided forums for economics education that beautifully complement the formal instruction provided by lectures, enhancing the overall educational and social experience for Boston University economics majors. We are all richer for the dedication of all participants, thank them for their efforts, and look forward to being part of the exciting projects they have planned for the future.
