Descriptive Norms Drinking and Abstaining Behaviors Questionnaire (DN-DABQ) 

For the following set of questions you will be asked about your drinking behaviors, and the drinking behaviors of the typical college student at your school, your friends, and your closest friends.

Before answering the following questions, please reflect on the individuals in your life who you would consider your friends and the individuals in your life who you would consider your closest friends.

Typical College Student at Your School Referent

For the first set of questions, please indicate the number of times a typical college student at your school engages in the following drinking behaviors over the course of a typical week.

  1. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school drink alcohol?
  2. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school get drunk?
  3. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school have a hangover after drinking?
  4. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school get drunk on a weeknight?
  5. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school black out from drinking?
  6. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school have sexual relations when drinking?
  7. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school drive after drinking?
  8. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school decide not to drink alcohol in social situations?
  9. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school not drink because of health concerns?
  10. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school not drink alcohol because they believe drinking is morally wrong
  11. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school not drink alcohol out of fear they will lose control?
  12. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school not drink alcohol out of fear of embarrassment?
  13. How many times a week does a typical college student at your school decide not to drink alcohol because drinking would interfere with their abilities to carry out their responsibilities? (i.e. job, school work)

Friends Referent

For the next set of questions, please indicate the number of times your friends engage in the following drinking behaviors over the course of a typical week.

  1. How many times a week do your friends typically drink alcohol?
  2. How many times a week do your friends typically get drunk?
  3. How many times a week do your friends typically have a hangover after drinking?
  4. How many times a week do your friends typically get drunk on a weeknight?
  5. How many times a week do your friends typically black out from drinking?
  6. How many times a week do your friends typically have sexual relations when drinking?
  7. How many times a week do your friends typically drive after drinking?

Injunctive Norms Drinking and Abstaining Behaviors Questionnaire (IN-DABQ) 

For the following set of questions you will be asked about the extent to which you approve of various drinking behaviors as well as the extent to which the typical college student at your school, your friends, and your closest friends, approve of various drinking behaviors.

Before answering the following questions, please reflect on the individuals in your life who you would consider your friends and the individuals in your life who you would consider your closest friends.
