Nicky Macias

Nicky Macias is a multimodal multilingual language practitioner in the second year of her Master’s program seeking Ph.D. positions in socio(cultural) linguistics as well as additional publication, conferencing, and linguistics training opportunities. As an emerging sociocultural linguist, Macias is interested in semiotic, lexical, and sociophonetic variation amongst the signed languages of the world. She aims to bridge cultural, modality, and linguistic gaps, advocate for sociocultural and linguistic human rights, empower stakeholders through resource education, engage in cross-cultural learning, embrace the diverse human spirit, practice allyship to Deaf communities, and embody a reflexive ethical and moral practice.
