Some of the most commonly provided documents for domestic students are:<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This form confirms a student\u2019s eligibility to legally work on-campus. Accurately complete this form prior to or on the first day of your employment. <strong>Supervisors\u00a0may not allow a student to work beyond 3 days if the student has not completed a Form I-9. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This form is required by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a division of the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<h3>Form W-4<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/fw4.pdf\">Form W-4<\/a> is a tax form. You can use it to establish the rate at which you believe you should be taxed from each of your paychecks. Even if you have filled out a Form W-4 before, you should fill one out for your job at Boston University. If you are unsure of how to fill out the Form, we recommend speaking to a parent, guardian, friend, or tax advisor. Unfortunately, our office is unable to provide advice on how to complete the Form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Domestic Students: W-4 information can be updated\u00a0<strong>after you collect your first<\/strong> <strong>paycheck.<\/strong> Once you&#8217;ve been paid at least one time, you can input your tax information through the Student Link &gt; Work &gt; Update Tax Information.<\/li>\n<li>International Students: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/students\/taxes\/taxes-international\/\">Tax Treaty documentation and questions about taxes<\/a> can be found on our website. Bring your completed Form W-4 to your hiring supervisor or to the <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/seo\/contact-us\/\">Student Employment Office<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/seo\/students\/taxes\/\">Further information regarding taxes<\/a> is available on our website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Direct Deposit<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/link\/bin\/uiscgi_studentlink.pl\/uismpl\/1207936645?ModuleName=menu.pl&amp;NewMenu=Work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Direct Deposit Authorization<\/a>\u00a0allows BU to deposit your paycheck directly into your bank account (checking or savings). You will need to <strong>wait until after you receive your first paper paycheck<\/strong> to set up this service.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/students\/pay\/direct-deposit\/\">instructions for setting up direct deposit<\/a>\u00a0on our website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Quick Contract<\/h3>\n<p>In order to register for Quick Jobs, students must read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/students\/studentjobservice\/quickie-jobs\/quickie-procedures\/\">Quick Job Procedures<\/a>, then take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/students\/studentjobservice\/quickie-jobs\/quickiequiz\/\">Quick Quiz<\/a> and sign the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/students\/studentjobservice\/quickie-jobs\/quickiecontract\/\">Quick Contract<\/a>. this amount is adjusted annually<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>Information on how to calculate the weekly benefit amount is available at this link on the Massachusetts Department of Family and Medical Leave website:\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/calculator.digital.mass.gov\/pfml\/yourbenefits\/\">https:\/\/calculator.digital.mass.gov\/pfml\/yourbenefits\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><em>Exemptions<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 Eligible students do not include H-2A visa holders, any employees who do not perform services in Massachusetts, and any other employee exempted under the Law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Private Plan Exemption<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Boston University has an approved private plan for both family\u00a0and medical leave<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>The details of Boston University\u2019s private plan may be found at the University\u2019s Paid Family and Medical Leave Law:\u00a0<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/bu-paid-family-and-medical-leave-law-policy\/\">https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/bu-paid-family-and-medical-leave-law-policy\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contribution Rates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Boston University will contribute 100% of the family and medical leave contribution for eligible employees<strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Protection, Continuation of Health Insurance, and No Retaliation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Job Protection<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 Generally, if an eligible employee takes family or medical leave under the Law, they must be restored to their previous position or to an equivalent position, with the same status, pay, employment benefits, length-of-service credit and seniority as of the date of leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Continuation of Health<\/em><\/strong><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Insurance<\/em><\/strong><em>:\u00a0<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>An employer must continue to provide for, and contribute to, an eligible employee\u2019s employment-related health insurance benefits, if any, at the level and under the conditions coverage would have been provided if the employee had continued working continuously for the duration of such leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>No Retaliation:\u00a0<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>It is unlawful for any employer to discriminate or retaliate against an employee for exercising any right to which the employee is entitled under the Law. An employee or former employee who is discriminated or retaliated against for exercising rights under the Law may institute a civil action in the superior court within three (3) years after the violation occurs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to File a Claim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under BU\u2019s private plan, employees will apply for leave through Human Resources.\u00a0 Matrix Absence Management will administer the University\u2019s paid family and medical leave benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Employees are required to provide at least 30 days\u2019 notice to their employer of the anticipated starting date of any leave, the anticipated length of the leave, and the expected date of return. A student or former student who is discriminated or retaliated against for exercising rights under the Law may institute a civil action in the superior court within three (3) years after the violation occurs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>How to File a Claim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under BU\u2019s private plan, students will apply for leave through the Student Employment Office.\u00a0 Matrix Absence Management will administer the University\u2019s paid family and medical leave benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible students are required to provide at least 30 days\u2019 notice to their supervisor of the anticipated starting date of any leave, the anticipated length of the leave, and the expected date of return.
