Eligibility<\/h4>\n

Students from participating graduate programs \u2013 Biomedical Engineering<\/a> (BME), Bioinformatics<\/a> (BI), and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry<\/a> (MCBB) \u2013 are invited to apply to the SB2 Training Program. Eligible students must be in the first year of their Ph.D. program in order to be eligible, and their Ph.D. supervisor must be a current T32 Mentor \u2013 see https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/faculty\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Applying to the program<\/h4>\n

Applications for Fall 2026 are due by midnight on June 14th<\/sup>, 2026 \u2013 please send the following documents to jfinkels@bu.edu <\/a>as part of your application package:<\/p>\n

  1. Research proposal<\/strong> \u2013 one page of text; a second page can be used for any figures or references; this document describes the general area\/project of interest and explains how the research will advance and expand the scope of synthetic biology\/ biotechnology. If you would like constructive feedback on your proposal before submitting, you may make an appointment with a BDC Communication Lab Fellow<\/a>!<\/li>\n
  2. Personal statement<\/strong> \u2013 in this one-page document, please discuss your short and long-term professional goals, as well as the major influences that helped shape these goals; please also explain why you are interested in the biotechnology and professional development aspects of this training grant. If you have already started thinking about your industry internship, please briefly explain the company or kind of company you are interested in doing your internship at \u2013 for example, small biotech\/large pharma, cancer biology\/women\u2019s health, etc. See https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/industry-engagement\/<\/a> and https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/program-details\/training\/<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Letters of support<\/strong> \u2013 please submit one letter of recommendation that is co-signed by your primary and secondary mentors. The primary mentor will serve in the standard PI role, as the main research advisor for the student. The secondary mentor will provide needed context and exposure to complementary research components. A list of faculty mentors can be found here: https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/faculty\/<\/a><\/li>\n

    Applications will be reviewed by the Selection & Mentorship Committee and applicants will be informed of decisions as quickly as possible.
