{"id":23,"date":"2019-08-15T14:54:41","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T18:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/?page_id=23"},"modified":"2025-08-20T11:13:51","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:13:51","slug":"apply","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/program-details\/apply\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>Students from participating graduate programs \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/academics\/departments-and-divisions\/biomedical-engineering\/\">Biomedical Engineering<\/a> (BME), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bioinformatics\/\">Bioinformatics<\/a> (BI), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mcbb\/\">Molecular Biology, Cell Biology &amp; Biochemistry<\/a> (MCBB) \u2013 are invited to apply to the SB2 Training Program.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS:<\/span> Eligible students must be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">starting their second year of their Ph.D. program in order to be eligible<\/span>, and their Ph.D. supervisor must be a current T32 Mentor \u2013 see <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/faculty\/\" data-outlook-id=\"b6a97138-eb9f-4a70-91fb-6f5238377f3c\">https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/sb2\/faculty\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Applying to the program<\/h4>\n<p>Applications for Fall 2025 are due by midnight on September 14<sup>th<\/sup>, 2025 \u2013 please send the following documents to <a href=\"mailto:jfinkels@bu.edu\">jfinkels@bu.edu <\/a>as part of your application package:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Research proposal<\/strong> \u2013 one page of text; a second page can be used for any figures or references; this document describes the general area\/project of interest and explains how the research will advance and expand the scope of synthetic biology\/ biotechnology. If you would like constructive feedback on your proposal before submitting, you may <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bdccommlab\/make-an-appointment\/\">make an appointment with a BDC Communication Lab Fellow<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal statement<\/strong> \u2013 in this one-page document, please discuss your short and long-term professional goals, as well as the major influences that helped shape these goals; please also explain why you are interested in the biotechnology and professional development aspects of\u00a0this training grant. The primary mentor will serve in the standard PI role, as the main research advisor for the student. The secondary mentor will provide needed context and exposure to complementary research components.
