She holds a PhD in Linguistics from Indiana University and is currently serving as a consultant to the BU African Language Program, heading up a project designed to improve assessment through the use of consistent performance-based measures. Her research has included a study of contact between Hausa and Zarma speakers among city dwellers in Niamey, Niger, and she has taught Hausa at various levels at Boston University. She also served as co-director of the only Niger-based US Department of Education Hausa Groups Project Abroad.
