Screen reading software is used by the visually-impaired to access your content. Mobility-challenged visitors may be navigating your website using only a\u00a0keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Accessible web content is not only the right thing to do\u2014it&#8217;s the law. <a href=\"http:\/\/webaim.org\/standards\/508\/checklist\">Section 508<\/a> is US law and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG20\/\">WCAG 2.0<\/a> A\/AA are international guidelines that are\u00a0considered best practices for accessible technology.<\/p>\n<p>Responsive Framework is fully compliant with both Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 A\/AA.<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0site administrators, editors, designers, and content providers must be diligent in maintaining accessible content and making sure new content you publish remains accessible. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/comm\/websites\/www\/wordpress\/how-to\/accessible-content\/\">Learn more about keeping your content accessible to everyone.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Publishing\u00a0accessible content also has silver linings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using semantic HTML markup will make your content more discoverable by search engines.<\/li>\n<li>Using a distraction-free design will benefit visitors\u00a0with learning disabilities.<\/li>\n<li>Accessible content is more standards compliant, making it more likely to be\u00a0compatible with the\u00a0connected devices of the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And accessible content does not only benefit those who have physical disabilities; for instance, video captioning is used widely by students where English is a\u00a0second language.<\/p>\n<p>Responsive Framework uses semantic markup out of the box. The preset color palettes provide good contrast. The design is navigable for keyboard-only users.
