Glucose homeostasis is the result of a complex communication network between different organs, including pancreas, muscle, liver, adipose tissue and brain. In diabetes type 2, hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, increase in fat mass and food intake are intricately connected. Our studies are aimed towards understanding how phosphoinositides can affect different aspects of the diabetes/ obesity cycle.
We use different cell types in culture to study the various aspects of metabolism regulation and glucose homeostasis. Here are a few of the cells we’ve been using as paradigm in our research:
