People, places, information, and rules are some examples of parts of your \u201cenvironment.\u201d People with disabilities have a right to ask for changes in their environments. Project TEAM teaches youth and young adults with disabilities how to make changes in their physical and social environment.<\/p>\n<p>Project TEAM helps teens and young adults with disabilities to:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/projectteam\/files\/2013\/08\/supports_barriers.png\" alt=\"A thumbs up and thumbs down symbol represents &quot;supports and barriers&quot; or things that help you or make it hard for you to do an activity\" title=\"Supports and Barriers\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43\" height=\"52\" width=\"52\" \/> Look for things that help or make it hard (supports and barriers) in their physical and social environment.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/projectteam\/files\/2013\/08\/strategies.png\" alt=\"A person thinking represents &quot;strategies&quot; or ways to change an activity or how you do it\" title=\"Strategies\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-44\" height=\"52\" width=\"52\" \/> Think of ways to make changes (strategies).<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/projectteam\/files\/2013\/08\/ask_for_change.png\" alt=\"A symbol of two people talking represents asking for change\" title=\"Asking for Change\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-45\" height=\"52\" width=\"52\" \/> Plan how to ask for change.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>Project TEAM is based on a disability rights perspective, which means that people with disabilities should be treated fairly like people without disabilities. Instead of teaching the trainees how to change themselves, Project TEAM teaches the trainee to change things outside themselves that make it hard for them to do the things they want to do. They learn how to problem solve barriers in their environment using the \u201c<a title=\"The Game Plan\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/projectteam\/teens-young-adults\/the-game-plan\/\">Game Plan<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Who developed Project TEAM?<\/h2>\n<p>Project TEAM was developed by a group of partners at Boston University that includes <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Dr. Jessica Kramer, Boston University page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/profile\/jessica-kramer\/\">Dr. Jessica Kramer<\/a>, an occupational therapist, and a panel of youth and young adults with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Other organizations have also helped develop Project TEAM, including the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Boston Center for Independent Living page\" href=\"http:\/\/bostoncil.org\/index.htm\">Boston Center for Independent Living<\/a> and the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Institue for Human Centered Design page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adaptenv.org\/\">Institute for Human Centered Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Project TEAM?
