Project InSTEP
Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development is training a special cohort of master’s students in Special Education & School Counseling. This is an opportunity for joint training between the two programs with integrated coursework.
Project InSTEP: Intensive Support Training for Educators and Practitioners
Purpose: The core objectives of Project InSTEP are to co-prepare scholars who are:
- Ready to provide holistic social, emotional, and behavioral supports to all students with disabilities and particularly those with high-intensity needs
- Prepared to use evidence-based supports in working with students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs,
- Equipped to support transition and career readiness for students with high-intensity needs
Special Cohort: In addition to the regular master’s programs offered by Boston University, Project InSTEP scholars are part of a special cohort of scholars with additional training opportunities. Project InSTEP is designed to provide scholars in the Special Education and School Counseling programs with interdisciplinary shared learning experiences that include:
- Shared coursework
- Partnership between programs
- Speaker series
- Counseling strategies training
- Case conference
- Networking conference with the Boston School-Based Behavioral Health Collaborative
- Co-placement opportunities
Funding: InSTEP scholars will receive stipends at a minimum of $30,000 per scholar, which can be used for tuition, living expenses, and/or training costs. These are designed to offset the need to take on additional work while enrolled. Scholars will also be eligible for scholarships from BU Wheelock.
