{"id":671,"date":"2015-05-19T15:01:43","date_gmt":"2015-05-19T19:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/phenogeno\/?p=671"},"modified":"2015-10-09T18:32:37","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T22:32:37","slug":"nature-and-imagination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/phenogeno\/2015\/05\/19\/nature-and-imagination\/","title":{"rendered":"Nature and Imagination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>15 years ago when I was getting immersed in computational genomics I had a conversation with my good friend <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_J._Lipman\" target=\"_blank\">David Lipman.<\/a> I was observing that when I was working in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science many of us were highly motivated by the famous quote from <a href=\"http:\/\/einstein.biz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Albert Einstein <\/a>that &#8220;Imagination is more important than Knowledge&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>However, in Biology it appears that Knowledge is very important&#8230; and many creative ideas end up failing because of constraints imposed by Nature.<\/p>\n<p>David, who has been working in the field much longer than me commented back;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Perhaps Nature Has a Bigger Imagination&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(see slide below for my illustration of his observation):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/phenogeno\/files\/2015\/05\/nature-imagination.pdf\">nature-imagination<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All pictures on this slide were found on the web&#8230; my deep thanks to the brilliant artists who produced this art..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>15 years ago when I was getting immersed in computational genomics I had a conversation with my good friend David Lipman.
