{"id":55,"date":"2019-01-11T15:36:03","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T20:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/perry\/?page_id=55"},"modified":"2019-01-22T13:51:46","modified_gmt":"2019-01-22T18:51:46","slug":"blog","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/perry\/blog\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From November 2010 to October 2012, I wrote a regular blog called\u00a0<strong>The Money View<\/strong> that was published on the website of the Institute for New Economic Thinking. \u00a0 (Archive can be downloaded <a href=\"\/perry\/files\/2019\/01\/Money-View-Archive.pdf\">here<\/a>. \u00a0Warning: \u00a0106 posts, 187 pages!)<\/p>\n<p>The idea of the blog was to use the conceptual framework that I had developed in my teaching to comment on the financial events of the day. \u00a0I already had lots of practice doing exactly that in the class itself, where I challenge myself to begin every single lecture with an impromptu ten minute discussion of some article in that day&#8217;s Financial Times. \u00a0The original idea of the blog was simply to translate that impromptu lecture to the web, by writing it down and producing little blackboard videos using a tablet and the free software <a href=\"http:\/\/open-sankore.org\/\">Sankore<\/a>. \u00a0It was an experiment.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, the blog evolved. \u00a0Daniel Neilson joined, sometimes we had guest bloggers, and we also produced other kinds of content. \u00a0It was a very intense and vital experience, but in October 2012 it got to be too much. \u00a0That fall, INET was filming my course and the discipline of producing two filmable lectures every week simply crowded out the blog. \u00a0And then September 2013 saw the launch of the course as a MOOC on Coursera, and I put all my spare effort into making that a success.<\/p>\n<p>Now the MOOC is a success, so it is time to restart the blog. \u00a0The blog stands on its own, as before, but now the MOOC serves as backstop for those who want a deeper and more structured introduction to the money view approach. \u00a0And for all those who have done the MOOC already, the blog provides a continuing stream of new content, money view commentary on current financial news and developments.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/perry\/blog\/current\/\" class=\"button\">View current blog<\/a>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From November 2010 to October 2012, I wrote a regular blog called\u00a0The Money View that was published on the website of the Institute for New Economic Thinking. \u00a0 (Archive can be downloaded here. \u00a0Warning: \u00a0106 posts, 187 pages!)
