Over the course of one academic year, students take eight courses, across a broad range of academic disciplines, developing skills in critical thinking, communication, quantitative reasoning, and scientific inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>The Boston University Prison Education Program seeks students who are committed to the challenge of rigorous college study. The admissions process, based on a written application and an interview, is designed to assess each applicant&#8217;s readiness for and interest in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Prison Education Program students who complete the Boston University Undergraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Studies will be able to demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increased preparedness for further study toward undergraduate degree completion<\/li>\n<li>Critical-thinking skills via analysis and synthesis of interdisciplinary material studied in the classical and contemporary liberal arts<\/li>\n<li>Improved readiness for active citizenship by means of a strong foundation in the liberal arts and an understanding of the connectedness of knowledge and learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Boston University Prison Education Program currently offers a 32-unit Undergraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Studies at two prisons in Massachusetts.
