Current BU students (undergraduate or graduate)\u00a0<\/span>can join the lab as a research assistant (RA) on\u00a0a volunteer basis, for academic credit, or for a stipend. If you are interested in joining\u00a0the lab as an RA, please apply to\u00a0Dr. Chang directly by\u00a0email<\/a> with:<\/p>\n

  1. a copy of your CV\/r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/li>\n
  2. a summary of relevant coursework (e.g., an unofficial transcript)<\/li>\n
  3. a short statement about your interests in linguistics (especially as regards the research foci of the lab: phonetics, language acquisition, and multilingualism)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    For BU undergraduate students<\/strong>, funding is usually obtained through the BU Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program<\/a> (UROP).\u00a0If interested in UROP, be sure to discuss this\u00a0with\u00a0Dr. Chang well in advance of\u00a0the early application deadlines<\/a>\u00a0(early September for Fall UROP; early December for Spring UROP; early March for Summer UROP). Alternatively, federal\u00a0Work-Study<\/a>\u00a0students may complete\u00a0an\u00a0RA-ship in\u00a0the lab as their Work-Study job.\u00a0If interested in doing Work-Study at the lab, take\u00a0note of BU’s undergraduate financial aid\u00a0<\/span>application deadlines<\/a>\u00a0as well (including the March 15 deadline<\/a> for Summer Work-Study)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

    For BU graduate students<\/strong>, the availability of funded RA positions varies by semester.\u00a0These are\u00a0usually for a time commitment that does not exceed 25-30% FTE (i.e., 10-12 hours\/week), and\u00a0Work-Study<\/a>\u00a0students are given preference.\u00a0If interested in doing Work-Study at the lab, take\u00a0note of BU’s graduate financial aid\u00a0<\/span>application deadlines<\/a> (including the March 15 deadline<\/a> for Summer Work-Study)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

    BU students in the Department of Linguistics may\u00a0conduct thesis or course-related research<\/strong> in the lab. If you have an idea for\u00a0a\u00a0thesis or course project that might benefit from\u00a0lab resources, please meet\u00a0with Dr. Chang to tell him more about your proposed project.<\/p>\n

    Non-BU students <\/strong>may also\u00a0intern\u00a0in\u00a0the lab on a volunteer basis.\u00a0<\/span>If you are interested in being a\u00a0volunteer intern, please apply to\u00a0Dr. Chang directly with the information\u00a0above, a description of your funding situation in the case of a summer internship (e.g., whether you have already obtained summer research funding from your\u00a0home university), as well as your intended time commitment (note that we ask for a minimum commitment of 75 hours total,\u00a0i.e. approximately 5 hours\/week during\u00a0the fall or spring semester and 6 hours\/week during the summer).<\/p>\n
