Meet the Rabbi
We are extremely happy to welcome BU Hillel’s new JLIC couple:
Rabbi Schwartz and Chava
Rabbi YD (Yehoshua Dovid) Schwartz, was brought up in sunny Southern California, attended UCLA where he studied English, Psychology and Astrophysics. After graduating, he made his way to Israel where after several years of yeshiva study he met his amazing wife Chava, and received two semichas from Rabbi Zalman Nechemiyah Goldberg of Jerusalem. A chef at heart and from training, he also ran a successful in-house catering business while in Israel and continues his DIY food projects since the move back to America three years ago.
Chava, originally from Toronto, at seventeen went to college in Israel for a year which turned into nine. She spent those years studying, working as a program coordinator, teacher and eventually meeting her amazing husband. She loves crafting, reading social psychology literature and planning fun and creative events.
Three years ago the Schwartz family picked up and moved to the University of Illinois in Champaing-Urbana. Rabbi Schwartz has been engaging Jewish students with deep philosophical discussions and dynamic topics, while Chava found her niche learning with women on campus, teaching dynamic classes and preparing events and Shabbat meals which include her world famous Chocolate mousse.
They are passionate about innovative education and Judaism that is relevant to our lives. With their two adorable children Meira (5 years old) and Yonah (2 years old) they are excited to bring a new energy to Boston, a little spice and a lot of spirit, humor, and an intellectually tantalizing approach to Torah to the BU campus.
