Bio:
Stephanie McNamara is graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Master’s degree in Physics in Spring 2026. Inspired by her experience as an ASI Fellow in Indonesia, she is drawn to work that is people-centered and Earth-centered, with a focus on community engagement and uplifting communities through science and collaboration. Alongside her scientific work, Stephanie believes in the power of art as a tool for connection, and she facilitates community mosaic workshops in Boulder. After graduation, she plans to travel before pursuing a career aligned with her values of environmental stewardship, equity, and meaningful community impact.
Main lessons/takeaways from the ASI fellowship:
“The main takeaway from this fellowship was learning about the interconnectedness of social and physical sciences and how we must incorporate local knowledge and beliefs into scientific plans for risk reduction and recovery.”
