Bio: 

Shalom Entner is a PhD candidate that is researching the impact of microplastic chemical leachate on Nematostella vectensis, a sentinel model organism, by investigating shifts in the physiology, microbiome and gene expression before and after exposure. Shalom is interested in a future career in the science-policy interface, making policy recommendations based on existing literature and her own work.

Main lessons/takeaways from the ASI fellowship:

“Experiencing research in another country was very impactful. I am always thinking about parachute science and critique my coworkers for doing it but I work locally so I’ve never considered how that may look from me. Going into the program, I had an idea for a project, but it is not what is important to the communities there so it’s not what we worked on.”
