Bio:
Julia Grossman is a 3rd year PhD student at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on modeling ground motions and tsunamis that could result from large earthquakes along crustal faults beneath Seattle and Puget Sound. She also serves as the Co-Lead of the Cascadia Culture and geoScience Exchange program, which seeks to build community resilience to geohazards through culturally-rooted K-12 education. Through her research and outreach, Julia strives to bridge the gap between geohazards research and disaster resilience efforts to better protect at-risk communities.
Main lessons/takeaways from the ASI fellowship:
“The ASI program solidified for me the importance of working with the communities on the front-lines of natural hazards. They need to be included in every step of the scientific process in order to translate research into effective resilience strategies.”
