Institution while in the program: University of California, Santa Barbara

Study area: Marine Science (emphasis: Physical Oceanography)

Graduate Degree: Ph.D.

Bio:

I am a PhD candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the Marine Science Program studying physical oceanography. My specific focus is using remote sensing technologies to better understand mixing dynamics in estuaries of California. My current project studies saltwater intrusion in the San Francisco Bay-Delta using satellite remote sensing technologies. Many people rely upon the Bay-Delta for freshwater access, agriculture, and recreation, making it an important habitat to monitor in the face of climatic uncertainties.

Main lessons/takeaways from the ASI fellowship:

“The ASI program brought me real-world experience connecting with people directly affected by natural disasters and put faces and emotion to the lived experiences of what we are trying to study and research.”
