Listening to Voices Seldom Heard:<\/em>
\n Perspectives and Narratives in Music Education<\/em><\/h3>\n

\nBook to be proposed for publication in Landscapes: The Arts, Aesthetics, and Education\u00a0<\/em>(Springer publishing; Liora Bresler, Series Editor).<\/p>\n

Scholars pursuing narrative inquiry in music, education, and the arts are invited to submit book chapter proposals relating to the theme of the Sixth International Conference on Narrative Inquiry in Music Education, \u201cListening to Voices Seldom Heard.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of the NIME6 conference was to examine the historical, current, and potential uses of narrative inquiry in music education and the arts to advance the philosophical, theoretical, and methodological bases of narrative inquiry in those areas. Drawing upon critical conversations of previous NIME conferences, the focus of NIME6 was upon listening to voices that are seldom heard, as well as considering ways to represent narrative beyond the printed page, such as music, film, photography, and performative pieces.<\/span><\/p>\n

As inspired by the NIME6 conference, we invite book chapter proposals to <\/span>consider how music educators and scholars might experience and confront music education stories from multiple perspectives and worldviews.\u00a0 <\/span>We also encourage potential authors to consider ways to represent narratives beyond the printed page, including with links to music, film, photography, and performative pieces.\u00a0 <\/span>Proposals will be considered by an international panel of scholars and reviewed according to criteria of scholarly rigor; writing clarity; evidence of theoretical or epistemological foundation; innovation and timeliness; connection to music, education and the arts; and relevance to the theme \u201clistening to voices seldom heard.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tentative Project Timeline<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

August 1, 2018 <\/b>\u2013 submission of an extended abstract (1,500 words excluding references) outlining the proposed chapter contribution<\/span><\/p>\n

September 5, 2018 <\/b>\u2013 notification of chapter proposal acceptance\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

September 26, 2018 <\/b>\u2013 book proposal sent to Springer<\/span><\/p>\n

January 9, 2019 \u2013 <\/b>full chapters (4,000-6,000 words, including abstract and references) \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

March 27, 2019 <\/b>\u2013 submission of revised chapter<\/span><\/p>\n

May 15, 2019 <\/b>\u2013 submission of final chapter<\/span><\/p>\n

Late 2019 <\/b>– anticipated publication by Springer<\/span><\/p>\n
