Black History Month 2024\u00a0honors Black artists and the <\/span><a data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/explore\/initiatives\/black-history-month-2024\" href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/explore\/initiatives\/black-history-month-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>&#8220;art of resistance,&#8221;<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Woodson, established<\/span><a data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.blackhistorymonth.gov\/About.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackhistorymonth.gov\/About.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span> the first Negro History Week in\u00a01926<\/span><\/a><span>. The designated week in February included the birthdays of both Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. The positive response was staggering, and over the next fifty years, the celebrations continued and solidified the importance of Black history in American life. In 1976 under President Gerald R. Ford, the celebration was expanded to the month of February, and every president since then has issued Black History Month proclamations. We celebrate Black History Month to commemorate the significance of Black history in the story of America and to honor the accomplishments of Black Americans that shaped our culture and society.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February is Black History Month!
