Stephanie’s Internship with the Rhode Island Public Health Institute focused on expanding SNAP incentives that offer a rebate on fruit and vegetable purchases to grocery retailers may be an effective strategy to reduce food insecurity in RI. As a step towards determining the potential funding source of a statewide intervention, this project analyzed the return on investment and policy benefits of a sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) excise tax in RI. <\/span>State-level dietary recall, population, and beverage price data were collected to begin the process of modeling the revenue generated from a $0.2 SSB excise tax in RI. Two fact sheets, a poster, and a PowerPoint presentation were created for use in informing public health officials and legislatures on the facts and myths surrounding SSB taxes as well as effective strategies for passing a bill in RI. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
