His current research focuses on the public expressions of Muslim identity among Senegalese migrants in Brazil. His dissertation research has been awarded the International Dissertation Fellowship from the Social Science Research Council and the Charlotte Newcombe Dissertation Completion Fellowship. Gana\u2019s previous graduate training and academic interests include intercultural mediation, Francophone studies, transnational Islam, African languages, and Muslim Africa\u2019s \u2018Ajam\u012b literary traditions.
