She has won multiple awards for her recently published book, <em>Across Legal Lines: Jews and Muslims in Modern Morocco <\/em>(Yale University Press 2016). She is currently working on a project about Nissim Shamama, a wealthy, 19<sup>th<\/sup> century Tunisian Jew whose contested estate highlights the way rising nationalism changed belonging in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>RESPONDANTS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/modern-med\/files\/2017\/09\/Derek-low-res-1115-424x636.jpg\" alt=\"Derek low-res 1115\" width=\"141\" height=\"251\" class=\"wp-image-115 alignleft\" \/>Derek Penslar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Derek Penslar is Visiting Professor of History at Harvard, where in July he will assume the William Lee Frost Chair in Modern Jewish History.\u00a0 Penslar approaches modern Jewish history from a transnational and global perspective. His work encompasses the history of the Jews in modern West and Central Europe, North America, and Palestine\/Israel.
