The Center is funded primarily by an Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Core Center (ADCC) grant from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Institute on Aging<\/a> and is one of 31 federally-funded Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Centers nationwide. Our goal is to help reduce the human and economic costs associated with Alzheimer\u2019s disease through the advancement of knowledge.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><strong>Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center: <\/strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In collaboration with other NIH-funded ADC\u2019s and the non-profit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sportslegacy.org\">Sports Legacy Institute<\/a>, CTE Center conducts high-impact, innovative research on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/mckeelab\/about\/what-is-cte\/\">Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy<\/a> and other long-term consequences of repetitive brain trauma in athletes and military personnel. The mission of the CTE Center is to conduct state-of-the-art research on CTE, including its neuropathology and pathogenesis, clinical presentation, genetics and other risk factors, biomarkers, methods of detection during life, and methods of prevention and treatment.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><strong>VA-BU-SLI Brain Bank:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/mckeelab\/va-bu-sli-brain-bank\/\">VA-BU-SLI Brain Bank<\/a> is a NeuroBioBank, established in 2008 at the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bedford.va.gov\/\">Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital<\/a> in Bedford, MA, under the leadership of neuropathologist and neurologist <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/mckeelab\/ann-mckee-md\/\">Dr. Ann McKee<\/a>. The mission of the\u00a0VA-BU-SLI Brain Bank is to collect and study post-mortem brain, spinal cord, and eye tissue to better understand the pathology, etiology, and epidemiology of trauma related neurodegenerative disorders.\u00a0 The\u00a0VA-BU-SLI Brain Bank acquires tissue samples and clinical information from deceased military Veterans and athletes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BU Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease Center: The Boston University Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Center was established in 1996 and is in its third funding cycle.
