Foundations for Local Public Health Practice
Foundations For Local Public Health Practice is an introductory course for public health staff, members of governing bodies, professionals new to the field, and professionals with experience and an interest in advancing their knowledge and skills. The Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health (SCLRPH) recommended that the Foundations course be offered across the state to anyone new to local public health in Massachusetts and those who carry out routine and emergency environmental and population-focused health functions.
Additional Recommended Trainings
Being new to local public health work in Massachusetts (or changing positions within your health agency) can be very exciting, but can also be quite challenging, and may even leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed. LPHI offers a large catalog of On Your Time self-paced trainings that are free of charge and offer continuing education credit. Topics include many of the program areas you may now be responsible for, as well as related skills and competencies you will need to do your job well. If you don’t have the time for the full Foundations course above, we recommend that you complete these trainings on your own schedule to get you started.
LPHI works with a wonderful network of public health professional organizations that provide information, guidance, and up-to-date public health policies, and offer skills training and other resources.
