Xan Denker – “Preaching to the Scholar” Podcast
College students are less religious than ever. Many of us were raised to believe something we now question—and sometimes find ourselves at odds with the very institution of religion.
However, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. As a skeptical Methodist myself, I’m not here to convert anyone. Instead, I hope I can show former kids of the churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples how to connect with the things they might have actually liked about religion. Devotion, kindness, mindfulness, discipline, community engagement, and other qualities like these are prominent in world religions, but they don’t have to be limited to them. Religious ideals can always be applied to non-religious life, and hopefully you’ll find some improvement in your own along the way.
Created by Xan Denker, an undergraduate in Boston University’s department of religion, Preaching to the Scholar is a collision of the sacred and the secular.
