Universal Onboarding Checklist

The purpose of this checklist is to help guide you through the onboarding process with a focus on building knowledge and learning Creative Services (CS) and Marketing & Communications (MarCom) processes via reviewing background materials, asking questions, observing a variety of meetings (from project-specific to recurring), and shadowing other team members on projects.

Become familiar with the campus and its culture, while also building connections with your colleagues!

First Day

  • Sign up for new employee ID (to be mailed) – Do this ahead of your first day
  • Attend HR Orientation (first morning) – The orientation sessions, led by our HR team, are typically held on Zoom every Monday at 9 am. Please contact Human Resources for scheduling.
  • Commuter/Subway/Bus/Parking Passes
  • Meet your supervisor at 985 Commonwealth Ave.
  • Receive your “Specific Team” Onboarding Guide and new hire checklist
  • Receive a quick tour of 985 
  • Learn how to order supplies for your office/workstation
  • Meet with your “Specific Team” (in person or hybrid)

  • Meet with CS Information Services & Technology (IS&T) 
    • Get equipment (this will be more detailed in each of the departmental checklists as it varies by department)
    • Get required software for computer, etc. (again, specified by department need)
  • Set up workspace
  • Set up phone
  • Receive your keys to the office and your desk nameplate
  • Review vacation and sick time info
  • Review absence tracking on BUworks using your BU email

  • Review the External Affairs Organization Chart
  • Meet with the Assistant Vice President of External Affairs, Erica Machut.
