Archive Image Requests
When looking for existing/archive images, the more info/specifics the client can provide, the easier the search will be:
- Who: specific names of professors/alumni/VIPs/etc.
- What: event names
- When: exact dates if possible – graduation years are helpful when searching for specific people
- Where: exact location if possible
- *For athletics-related searches, jersey numbers are helpful
If the client is looking for general images, specific details are not always possible, but basic details like time frame, location, subjects are helpful.
Digital archive – 2005 to present
Film archive – roughly 1950 to 2004
For film archive requests, there are a couple of different ways that clients can review images:
- If only a few images (less than 10) are pulled from the archive, we will often scan the contact sheets and email them to the client. Once the client makes selects, those images will be scanned at high resolution.
- If a large number of images/contact sheets are pulled for the request, we will arrange a time for the client to come to our office to review the images in person. Once selects are made, those images are scanned at high resolution.
Selects are scanned on a flatbed scanner.
- RAW file is saved as TIFF file
- Image is captioned, cropped, color-corrected, resized @ 300 dpi and saved as a JPEG
- JPEG file is uploaded to Cumulus in Historic Images category
- TIFF and JPEG files are saved to Scanned Archive – external hard drive
JPEG files are normally sent to the client via a Photoshelter gallery.
