Style Sheets

Style sheets should be named for the thing that they are used for (e.g.: Body Copy, Picture Caption) and NOT with a font description (e.g.: 9/12pt Whitney) because other designers will not know where to use it. If you have a lot of style sheets (in a magazine, for instance), group them in folders for each section as shown here.

Sample Room Overview

Photograph of shelves in the sample roomSamples of past print projects are kept in the closet in room 129, archived by year.
Print samples are handed out according to the distribution list (see print production
documentation for the latest list), and leftover samples are filed away alphabetically by
client in the boxes with the corresponding years.

After distribution, there should be roughly 10 samples left over to be filed in the closet. If a
job requires more samples to be ordered, please note this to the print buyer during the
quoting stages of the project.

Extra samples of the PRES Annual Reports (typically one full carton for each year) are kept
on the bottom shelves in boxes marked with the year they were printed.

Design Libraries

Marketing Design maintains two repositories of printed, design-reference materials: one in the cabinets at the back of the second-floor 224 Conference Room and the other on the comping table and shelving near the second-floor printer in the Marketing Design area.

224 Conference Room

The 224 Conference Room contains mainly past MarCom work, for reference and inspiration. Publications housed here include:

  • Alumni Magazines – Past Issues
  • Admissions Publications & Materials
  • Commencement Publications & Materials
  • Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) Publications & Materials
  • Past Annual Reports

This area also contains design awards Marketing Design has garnered over the years.

Comping Table/Shelving by Second-Floor Printer

This second design library is focused more on design-inspiration materials. Publication types include:

  • Communication Arts Annuals
  • Various Design Books
  • Peer-University Alumni Magazine Samples
  • Paper Samples for Production Reference

Requesting New Additions to MarCom Design Libraries

Marketing Designers in need of additional materials may submit a request to Carla/Senior Associate Creative Director or Rob/Creative Director, and they will look into ordering items based on topic, budget, space, etc.
