Tiny Tasks
The #id-tiny-tasks channel on Slack is for short tasks [4 hours or less] that anyone [who’s light on work] can post to or pick up while waiting for more work.
Project Managers and Leads post tasks. Designers and developers check in and grab a task after notifying #ask-a-pm they’re light on work. Example:
Hey folks! I have a small Bulletin task that’d be great for someone looking to take their first steps in PHP! It’s just reordering and editing some HTML in a theme probably about an hour of your time more info here [URL or similar Link].
Please be on the lookout for anything you can use help with on a project. Ideas include flowing in sample content for development on staging, reviewing link check reports, and minor design revisions. There’s lots of places you can find these kinds of tasks for all disciplines.
Bigger tasks [greater than 4 hours] should be reported to a Managing Supervisor/ACD for resourcing.
How it Works
Hint: It’s just like the #code-reviews channel!
Have a tiny task?
Post it in #id-tiny-tasks with a brief summary of what it is and how long you think it will take. If there is a Trello card or GitHub issue, please link to it.
Taking on a tiny task?
Give it a 👍 when you’ve decided to start on it, and a ✅ when you’ve completed it.
Need to bump a tiny task up because no one has taken it on?
Copy a link to the original message and post it again.
Need to return a tiny task?
Just remove the 👍 so others know it’s up for grabs.
No tiny tasks available?
Ping the @channel and see what hasn’t been mentioned yet!
What makes a great Tiny Task?
- Your task takes 4 hours or less, including time to onboard and set up.
- It’s [preferably] billable work, though un-billable work is okay too.
