ServiceNow

Tickets

ServiceNow, from Boston University’s IS&T, streamlines ticket management for BU’s applications and websites. If WordPress theme or plugin related: the tickets are evaluated by IS&T and then forwarded to Interactive Design for leadership to resource and assign to the best available and relevant Lead Designer or Developer.

Bug Triage

Our Priority Matrix to help triage bugs in ID products and manage ServiceNow tickets related to our WordPress themes.

Ticket Workflow

If you’re a relevant Lead Designer or Developer who recognizes a past project, inquire about fixing or patching the requested ticket. Whether the ticket is a post-launch bug reads like a new feature, or not, please address it in our #servicenow-bugfixes slack channel, addressed to Kristen Ibbitson, or the relevant Creative Director of the project.

New Interface Overview

WordPress and IS&T

A lot of our work as a department wouldn’t be possible without the collaborative assistance and server hosting capabilities of Boston University’s Information Services & Technology department who also provide the University with technology services — which craft and manage standalone and WordPress-supported applications that organize, interface and output private and public data and professional information throughout BU’s digital ecosystem.

To be familiar with the plugins that integrate with it: it’s strongly encouraged that you read up on IS&T’s How-To with WordPress. For a more engaging experience, you can also sign up for any WordPress Training sessions (subject to availability) and may help if you’re more of a practice-based visual learner. As for WordPress, there are plenty of resources online.

Older, Unrecommended, & Discontinued Services

Non-WordPress Websites

In very fringe cases, Responsive Foundation tools can be utilized as a standalone to build and apply to either a blank website, headless CMS. Due to it’s sensitivity, all maintenance [including copy(!)] is the responsibility of the Lead Designer.

They’re rare, but if ever scoped: it’s because a project required a more complex experience outside of what a CMS could offer.

Flexi & BU Frameworks

While they might not need to be analyzed too closely, there are past theme frameworks that some older BU sites have been built upon that still exist out there in the wild. It’s important to understand them at a high level, so you can be prepared if they ever pop up on a project.

Learn how they came about and how to spot them here.
