Dr. Kazis is Professor of Health Law, Policy and Management and Director of the Center for the Assessment of Pharmaceutical Practices (CAPP) at the Boston University School of Public Health. He received his doctoral degree from Harvard University School of Public Health in 1980. Dr. Kazis conducts research projects for the Centers for Disease control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) in the area of quality of care and patient reported outcomes. He has also collaborated with Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children on the evaluation and development of the Burn Outcomes Questionnaire and the Young Adult Burn Outcomes Questionnaire.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jette is the Director of the Health and Disability Research Institute at the Boston University\u2019s School of Public Health, where he also serves as Professor of Health Policy and Management. He received his M.P.H. and Ph.D. in public health from the University of Michigan. Dr. Jette\u2019s research interests include late-life exercise, evaluation of treatment outcomes, and the measurement, epidemiology, and prevention of disability. He directs Boston University’s Rehabilitation Outcomes Center which applies modern psychometric methods to the development of the next generation of outcome instruments for post acute care and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Amy Acton is the Executive Director of the The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors and an advocate for burn injury survivors.\u00a0 The Phoenix Society is a national non-profit organization that provides support and services to those impacted by a burn injury and those who care for them. She is also herself a burn survivor who prior to her role at the Phoenix Society worked for 13 years as a burn nurse and manager. She has been very involved in the American Burn Association (ABA) serving on several committees. She is co-chair of the joint committee of the Phoenix Society and ABA focusing on Aftercare and Reintegration.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ryan is a trauma surgeon and a national figure in the area of burn injury. She is the Director of Clinical Care at the Boston-Harvard Burn Injury Model System as well as Associate Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ryan has published landmark research in burn outcomes and is lead investigator in the development of the Young Adult Burn Outcomes Questionnaire. Her research expertise includes outcomes, employment and pain in burn injury.<\/p>\n

Dr. Schneider is a rehabilitation medicine specialist and national expert in burn injury rehabilitation. He is the Director of the Burn Rehabilitation Outcomes Group that has developed wide-ranging collaborations, produced numerous national presentations and articles, and demonstrated a strong history of grant support. Dr. Schneider is also the Program Director of the NIDRR-sponsored Harvard-Boston Burn Injury Model System. He is an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Harvard Medical School and the Medical Director of the Burn and Trauma Program at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.<\/p>\n

Dr. Slavin is a physical therapist with more than 30 years of experience in the rehabilitation field as a clinician, educator and researcher. Her interests include promoting evidence-based practice in rehabilitation and use of appropriate measures to assess rehabilitation outcomes. She has contributed significantly to two computer adaptive tests (CAT): the Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC) and the Spinal Cord Injury Functional Index (SCI-FI).\u00a0 Dr.\u00a0 Slavin is currently the Director of Education and Dissemination at the Health and Disability Research Institute at the Boston University School of Public Health.<\/p>\n

Dr. Zafonte has broad experience in rehabilitation research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the US Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation. He is the author of numerous publications about traumatic brain injuries and other rehabilitation topics, has served as an editor on several successful rehabilitation textbooks and has given more than 100 national and international presentations on rehabilitation. Dr. Zafonte completed his residency in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident.<\/p>\n

Emily Ohrtman graduated from Smith College with a degree in Anthropology and Neuroscience and now works as a Research Assistant for the Boston-Harvard Burn Injury Model System. Currently, she is working on a project in conjunction with the Spaulding Neuromodulation lab in which she looks at cortical modulation with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in relation to symptoms following burn injury.<\/p>\n
